The Ox and Hound

This casual bistro is a welcome addition to Beechworth’s clutch of good eateries. The owners of Oxenbury Vineyard have played on the name to arrive at The Ox and Hound, while also serving some of their estate-grown Cow Hill wines – mainly pinot noir. Food is essentially French country cuisine with a strong emphasis on seafood and ‘from farm to plate’ themes. There might be local Harrietville smoked trout for lunch, terrific snapper pie for dinner and even their own farmed milk-fed lamb on the menu. In autumn, they join with a local chestnut grower to make their own farm pork and chestnut sausages. Also worth knowing about is their farmhouse terrine, Peking-style duck and decadent dark chocolate tart.
