There’s a warm welcome at Raffety’s, with a cosy fire in winter inside this 100-year-old heritage building and a side verandah with concertina doors that open for summer dining. There are also pavement tables and alcove seating on comfy leather couches for drinks before being seated for dinner. Everything is made on the premises, and local produce is sourced for the modern Australian fare. Start with tempura prawns on pickled vegetables with wasabi mayonnaise on a warm squid salad. As in most country places, steaks are popular, and their 250-gram fillet steak is no exception. There is always a pasta, risotto and fish of the day, and locals won’t let the owners take the lemon tart off the dessert menu.
