Mount Pleasant Homestead

Mount Pleasant Homestead, Ruth Amery

When Ruth and Noel Amery went about renovating their old property into a guesthouse, they succeeded in finding the perfect balance between cottage charm and a luxury escape. Guests who drive down the unsealed track off Great Alpine Road will encounter a pleasant farm property. But once inside, the contemporary furnishings offer a new dimension (and had this reviewer wishing she could transport everything to her own home). The lounge room is a delightful mixture of 1950s furniture and a chandelier, refreshed by colourful cushions, a Moroccan mirror over the fireplace, Chinese artwork and an all-important LCD TV with Austar.

The two queen bedrooms are equally well furnished, but if you only require one bedroom then you’ll have to make the tough choice between an ensuite with a bath, or a separate bathroom with spa (which ever rooms you don’t need will just be closed off for the duration of your stay). A mountain of breakfast goodies, including some homemade tomato relish, will convince you to make use of the modern kitchen complete with espresso machine. And the complimentary port and chocolates may be a nice accompaniment to some star-gazing through the telescope at night.

The homestead is secluded, but still only a short drive to the centre of Wangaratta. Milawa, Beechworth and the Rutherglen wine region are also worthy daytrips.
