Rocky Valley reservoir at Falls Creek has been used as a venue for state and national fly-fishing championships. Trout to 3 kg have been caught from the shore. Bait fishing using ultra-light rods and rigs is deadly during summer in the Rocky Valley and Pretty Valley reservoirs. However, choose your days carefully as the temperature in those high altitudes can be 15°C cooler than at Mount Beauty.
Pretty Valley Creek is fairly challenging to fish at the run-in to the reservoir, being wide in places and deep with a subtle flow and absolutely no streamside cover. In contrast, the run-out contains shallow runs with pools with lots of weeds and rocks and contains hundreds of small brown trout that beginner fly-fishers have no trouble in catching and releasing.
