Davons is located about 600 m east of Sheepyard Flat down Brocks Rd. On the other side of the Howqua River is state forest, while a kilometre or so to the south is the perimeter of Alpine National Park. Bring in a load of firewood and plenty of drinking water when you camp here.

This campsite is located in Howqua Hills Historic Area

Remnants of the goldmining that took place in the Howqua Hills are scattered about the area, including an old water race and a smelting furnace. A particularly poignant historic sight is the former home of bushman Fred Fry, who left his mark in the form of many huts around the region. Horseriders join bushwalkers in exploring this lovely area. Turn onto the signposted Howqua Track from the Mansfield–Mount Buller Rd just east of Merrijig.
