Red Gums camping area
Like Coburns Pines, Red Gums is a dispersed bush campsite with no facilities, excepting some weathered picnic tables. Also in the western reaches of the state forest, and accessed via sandy tracks, you can reach it by turning west onto Firebreak Track from Murrayville Track, driving for 12.5 km, then turning south onto Coburns Track – Red Gums will be signposted off Coburns Track about 5.3 km south of the turning.

This campsite is located in Big Desert State Forest
Its name sounds contradictory, but this forest is part of a broader habitat that includes sandy plains. Hundreds of plants and dozens of reptile species call this arid but striking region home. Wild dogs also live here, so leave pets at home. A 4WD is needed for the forest’s black-soil floor, which is slippery when wet. From Murrayville on the Mallee Hwy, head south for 10 km down the Murrayville Track and take the signposted turning onto Firebreak Track.
