A bustling piece of loud, swirling Roman chaos in the midst of Melbourne’s Little Italy, Brunetti is one of the city’s quintessential cafe experiences. Multiple shopfronts, a large outdoor seating area and a sensational range of Italian-style cakes, pastries, breads and gelati are certainly part of the charm, but top-notch people-watching is also one of Brunetti’s best attributes. Some of the hot food options can be hit-and-miss but the coffee is usually good and the sweet stuff – particularly Italian classics like cream-filled cannoli pastries – hit the spot in an authentically satisfying manner. As some locals like to say, Brunetti is not so much a cafe as a state of mind.
