At the Melbourne Museum, a dedicated area called Bunjilaka empowers Aboriginal people to interpret their own cultural heritage for the benefit of both Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians. It serves as a changing artist space, exhibition gallery, performance area and cultural centre. There are permanent displays on the history of Aboriginal people and regular debates about Indigenous knowledge and the law, as well as various children’s activities. The Milarri Garden Trail leads visitors outside to discover medicinal and bush food plants, and to a cave with Indigenous paintings.
