If the queues that regularly spill from Babka’s front door aren’t hint enough of something special at this Brunswick Street bakery and cafe, then the aroma of freshly baked loaves, pies and cakes should have you joining the line. Small, closely packed and wonderfully homey, Babka takes Eastern Europe as its major influence – spot the graffiti-style Babushkas painted on the shop’s exterior. The short, regularly changing menu is chock full of stroganoff, borscht, potato dumplings and sweet, cheesy blintzes. There are excellent sandwiches too – BLT with dill mayo or corned beef and house-made pickles – served on Babka’s beautifully textured bread. Buy a loaf on the way out and relive the memory.
