Thomson Bridge camping area
Campsite
The Thomson Bridge spans the Thomson River to the south of Walhalla, which was one of the richest towns in the country during the 19th-century gold rush. Its population once approached 4000, but now numbers fewer than several dozen. After you’ve set up your tent in the small camping area, reached from Walhalla Rd, follow the walking track on the western side of the river, which eventually takes you into Walhalla. There’s a train you can catch from here that crosses the old goldfields.
