Little O’Tooles camping area
The Little O’Tooles site is a beautiful spot right on the river, lying off Donnelly Creek Track – the turning for which is signposted off Walhalla Rd. A 4WD is required to negotiate the route here – note that this is subject to seasonal access. Swimming and fishing are the best ways in which to occupy yourself here, although snoozing under the nearest tree isn’t a bad option either.

This campsite is located in Thomson State Forest
Thomson State Forest, 40 km north of Walhalla, is riddled with rough tracks that off-road vehicles and trail bikes negotiate with practised abandon. Note: it also includes a new 4WD Heritage Trail that begins in nearby Walhalla and takes in Donnelly Creek and many historic sights in the forest. The trees that have taken root here occasionally open out into expansive campsites where large groups settle around blazing fires, and local streams hold plenty of promise for keen anglers. Access is provided by Walhalla Rd, which is narrow and rarely straight.
