The O’Tooles site is a large, grassy area encircled by a natural barrier of tall trees. The openness of the area is perfect for gazing up at the broad night sky and tracing the stars. This relaxing camping spot is reached via Donnelly Creek Track, which you’ll find signposted off Walhalla Rd. A 4WD is needed to reach O’Tooles, and also to enjoy the surrounding network of cool forest tracks.

This campsite is located in Thomson State Forest

Thomson State Forest, 40 km north of Walhalla, is riddled with rough tracks that off-road vehicles and trail bikes negotiate with practised abandon. Note: it also includes a new 4WD Heritage Trail that begins in nearby Walhalla and takes in Donnelly Creek and many historic sights in the forest. The trees that have taken root here occasionally open out into expansive campsites where large groups settle around blazing fires, and local streams hold plenty of promise for keen anglers. Access is provided by Walhalla Rd, which is narrow and rarely straight.
