North Gardens is located in the history-ridden centre of Walhalla township on Stringer Creek. This campground was once the end of a tramway used to bring timber fuel to the mines. It has limited space for vans and camper trailers; so, if you’re towing, get here early during peak holiday periods. A signposted walking track leading from North Gardens provides some good views of the town.

This campsite is located in Walhalla Historic Area

Exploration of the historic goldmining town of Walhalla, 184 km east of Melbourne, reveals fascinating buildings as well as old tramways, mines and tunnels, all of which are best discovered on foot. Just in case you’re tempted by a long walk, Walhalla is also the start of the 650 km Australian Alps Walking Track to the ACT. From Moe on the Princes Hwy, head north to Rawson and then go east on Walhalla Rd.
