Walhalla

The dining room of Walhalla’s stylish Star Hotel was named after one of the hotel’s original owners, who in 1878 carried out renovations that gave the building the form that is replicated today. While the exterior might say gold-rush era, the interior is indeed contemporary. The dinner menu is à la carte and changes daily. Generally there is a choice of four dishes for each course, with mains including a selection of fish, poultry and red meat dishes. Popular entrées include sweet Thai chilli prawns and house-made terrine, while favourite main courses are Gippsland lamb and rosemary pie or roast pork belly with apple relish. Desserts include evergreens: rich chocolate mud cake and lemon tart. The wine list features several regional labels. Reservations are required.
