Don’t take the name personally: it’s actually a wise move to pitch a tent on this peaceful stretch of flat ground. From Portland, drive west for 22 km along the road to Nelson and take the signposted turn-off north onto the T&W Rd. Drive a further 20 km to the signposted turn-off to Jackass Fern Gully, 300 m off the T&W Rd.

This campsite is located in Cobboboonee National Park

Cobboboonee is an attractive mixture of forests, heathlands and wetlands accessed from the Princes Hwy between Portland and Dartmoor. The area is a well-established favourite of hikers and horseriders. Walkers avail themselves of numerous tracks, including the Great South West Walk, which winds through the landscape between Portland and Nelson. Equestrians can explore the 60 km of trails that make up the Great Cobboboonee Horse Trail.
