Great South West Walk

In spite of forest logging in Victoria’s Western District, the forest near Portland remains an untouched natural wonderland. The Great South West Walk covers this forest and a variety of other spectacular landscapes. Leaving from Portland, it heads inland through the Cobboboonee State Forest and along Glenelg River, where walkers can swim and explore around the limestone cliffs. From Lower Glenelg National Park it trails along the wild beach of Discovery Bay and Cape Bridgewater. At 250 kilometres, the well-marked loop takes 12 to 14 days.
