The Werribee River is popular, both as an access point to the bay and the estuary itself. Excellent catches of whiting and flathead are made inshore near the weed beds. Further offshore, the deeper reefs have a big reputation for snapper. If you launch your boat in the river, stay in the marked channel and don’t head out for deeper water until you have passed the large pile mark, as there is shallow ground to the right. Head left and you go to Campbells Cove, at the back of Point Cook airfield and the ageing RAAF jetty. This popular whiting ground also produces pinkies, garfish and flathead.
