After a stint cooking overseas, former Portland boy Aaron Turner returned to open his own restaurant on the Bellarine Peninsula near Drysdale, with wife Astrid as front of house. Loam occupies the spacious upstairs dining space above Lighthouse Olive Oil, overlooking the olive grove. There are two menus: a small, rustic and produce-driven à la carte menu served ‘On the Deck’; and constantly changing tasting menus in the dining room with options for two, four, seven or nine courses. Using fresh and artisinal produce, with home-grown fruit, herbs and vegetables, Turner is happiest when showcasing passionate local producers such as Drysdale goats cheese, Portarlington mussels, and free-range eggs from Stonehaven. Local wines and beers are also on offer.
