Yarra Valley wine- and cider-maker Phil Kelly (Kellybrook Wines) and four of his mates are behind the Coldstream Brewery, which came on-line during 2008. Due to various planning approval delays, the bar and restaurant had opened well before the microbrewery (bought second-hand from New Zealand) was commissioned. English brewer Rod Williams (he worked in the UK for Youngs, George Gale and Ringwood breweries) was recruited early on, and hand-pumped, caskconditioned real ale was always on the agenda. Coldstream Cider is Kelly’s creation and is available on tap alongside Coldstream Bitter, Lager and Pilsner. The signature Coldstream Bitter is available at the brewery/bar both chilled and served at slightly warmer temperature by traditional hand-pump, allowing punters a unique taste comparison. Seasonal brews have included an Elderflower Summer Ale and a Spring Lager.
