Overlooking the floral splash of a neighbouring nursery, this contemporary eatery has always been popular with locals and visitors alike. Serving modern Australian food with a French influence, it offers a good-value set-price two- or three-course lunch. On Sunday, start the day with the ‘big breakfast’ of ‘the lot’ or savour fluffy buttermilk pancakes with local berries and cream. For lunch or dinner you don’t have to be a vegetarian to appreciate the flavoursome rotolo of roasted butternut pumpkin, thyme and semi-dried tomatoes. Duck three ways has become a signature dish at Wild Oak – comprising confit duck leg and local cherry tart with pan-roasted duck breast and duck sausage. And for dessert, perhaps try the bombe Alaska.
