Niagara Dam camping area, Paul Smedley

Niagara Dam camping area is 60 km north-east of Menzies via the Goldfields Hwy and Kookynie Rd. An oasis in the outback, it embraces a large, shady area among the trees on the edge of the dam. Visitors can explore the surrounding bush or swim and fish the waters of the dam, which was built to water the steam trains that serviced the nearby historic town of Kookynie. Today, Kookynie is a living ghost town, and not to be missed if you are visiting the northern Goldfields region. Note: baits are laid in this area, so keep your dog on a lead. Bring your own firewood and drinking water.
