Shark Bay and the Peron Peninsula offer an amazing mix of desert landscapes and calm, sheltered waters full of marine life. You will almost certainly come into contact with dolphins and dugongs in the water, while out of the water there are the many stromatolites, the world’s oldest living fossils, which dot the shores of Hamelin Pool in rocky lumps. There are hundreds of kilometres of shoreline to kayak beside and the shallow waters mean that with a kayak you can come into shore where boats cannot. Try a multi-day trip up the west coast of the Peron Peninsula between Monkey Mia and Cape Peron, staying overnight at secluded beachside campsites. Be aware of the winds and tides.
