Stromatolites of Hamelin Pool
Back to nature
If your kids are into dinosaurs, then show them stromatolites, the first life form to appear on earth – three and a half billion years ago! Super-salty Hamelin Pool is one of the few places on earth where they can still be found. An educational wooden boardwalk lets you get close without doing damage. Stromatolites look like stones but they are actually living. The nearby caravan park runs a small museum and tearoom in a historic telegraph station.
