Established in 1893, the Ironclad Hotel has become an icon in the hottest town in Australia, quite possibly because it prides itself on always serving a well-deserved cold beer. The name originates from the American miners who used to live in the town and regaled the locals with tales about the ironclad boats used in the Mississippi. The accommodation is basic but clean, and most importantly air-conditioned, and there are family and single rooms available. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, and there are barbecue facilities and a games room.
