Manjimup and Pemberton

These two regions are stacked on top of one another beneath the Blackwood Valley. Well before wineries were established here, Dr John Gladstones studied the climate of the wider region and claimed that Manjimup had similar conditions to Bordeaux. Just like Bordeaux, merlots are strong. Visit Chestnut Grove (Perup Rd, Manjimup, (08) 9478 5688) to taste some of the best merlot, as well as its verdelho. The much denser wine region of Pemberton has vineyards squeezed in between the marri and karri forests. Wineries include Salitage (Vasse Hwy, Pemberton, (08) 9776 1771) and Fonty’s Pool (Seven Day Rd, via Manjimup, (08) 9777 0777), with styles such as semillon, viognier, merlot and chardonnay.
