Shoalwater Islands Marine Park

Offshore from Rockingham, an hour’s drive south from Perth, is Shoalwater Islands Marine Park. These limestone islands are home to 16 seabird species, including wedge-tailed shearwaters and terns, and are rimmed by brilliant temperate and tropical reefs (the latter are due to the warm Leeuwin current travelling down the coast from the north). Regular ferries from Rockingham run from September to June, passing sea lion and penguin colonies. They also stop at a viewing centre on Penguin Island, where you can snorkel and explore the waters surrounding the pristine beaches.
